Muziek die stedelijk of landelijk kan zijn, spiritueel of profaan, van hier of van ginder, van morgen of van gisteren…Kortom, muziek die het dualistische denken overstijgt. Want dat is de inzet: hoe ‘oud’ is ‘avant-garde’ en hoe ‘nieuw’ is ‘oude’ muziek? In elk geval is het muziek die concentratie vraagt en daarvoor zijn het kader en de stilte van de Brigittinenkapel ideaal. Voor wie de inspanning levert, is de beloning groter. Welkom in deze tijdloze dimensie. **Amir El Saffar (US)** Deze muzikant (trompet, santoor, stem) van Amerikaans-Irakeseafkomst slaagt erin om deze ver van elkaar liggende muzikale idiomen met elkaar te verzoenen; terwijl hij tegelijkertijd hun grenzen verlegt. Hij munt uit zowel in hedendaagse avant-jazz op trompet (waarop hij nieuwe technieken creëerde om microtonen te spelen) als in de eeuwenoude ‘erudiete’ Irakese maqam. Hij zal zowel zijn stem gebruiken als trompet en santoor. **Ensemble Phoenix Münich (DE): “Requiem for a Pink Moon. Elizabethan Tribute to Nick Drake (1948-74)”** Dit vermaarde ensemble voor oude muziek uit München bracht vorig jaar de cd ‘Requiem for a Pink Moon. Elizabethan Tribute to Nick Drake (1948-74)’ uit: een merkwaardige hertaling van het iconische album ‘Pink Moon’ (1972) van de legendarische en vroeg gestorven zanger-liedjesschrijver Nick Drake. In hun versie worden deze songs terug in de tijd geprojecteerd als waren ze geschreven in Elisabethaans Engeland. Vreemd genoeg winnen de songs aan diepte en intimiteit hoewel de bewerking uiteraard veel formeler en de zang afstandelijker is. Een beklijvend experiment voor fans van Nick Drake en van oude muziek.
