Muziek die stedelijk of landelijk kan zijn, spiritueel of profaan, van hier of van ginder, van morgen of van gisteren…Kortom, muziek die het dualistische denken overstijgt. Want dat is de inzet: hoe ‘oud’ is ‘avant-garde’ en hoe ‘nieuw’ is ‘oude’ muziek? In elk geval is het muziek die concentratie vraagt en daarvoor zijn het kader en de stilte van de Brigittinenkapel ideaal. Voor wie de inspanning levert, is de beloning groter. Welkom in deze tijdloze dimensie. **Paul Metzger (US)** Deze eenzaat uit Minneapolis begon 30 jaar geleden te experimenteren met bewerkte gitaren en andere snaarinstrumenten. Op zijn 12- of 23-snarige banjo schittert hij met verbazingwekkende improvisaties die dicht aanleunen bij de eeuwenoude Indische raga’s en hedendaagse improvisatorische muziek en weinig meer te maken hebben met de ‘Americana’ waarmee het instrument doorgaans wordt geassocieerd. In 2010 bracht hij de merkwaardige plaat ‘Uses of Infinity’ uit: in één keer opgenomen in een oude kathedraal in Minnesota (Duluth), neemt deze zesdelige suite je mee doorheen een tijdloos universum. **Stevie Wishart (GB)** Componiste en muzikante Stevie Wishart studeerde zowel oude muziek als o.a. improvisatorische en aleatorische muziek bij John Cage en David Tudor. Ze pendelt moeiteloos tussen de wereld van de oude muziek (draailier, viool) en hedendaagse elektronica. Ze concerteerde reeds zowel in de Purcell Room of de Queen Elisabeth Hall als in ICA, IRCAM of ZKM Karlsruhe. Ze zal een solo op draailier uitvoeren. **J.S. Bach: cantate 177 ‘Ich rufe zu dir Herr Jesu Christ’** (voor orkest en dove zangers en vertellers). Voor deze eigen productie vroegen we Brusselse componist/muzikant Baudouin De Jaer deze Bach-cantate aan te passen voor orkest en dove zangers en vertellers. Het orkest zal onder leiding staan van Bernard Wolteche (koninklijk conservatorium van Brussel). Baudouin hertaalde de partituur en ontwikkelde een methodologie om ze aan de nieuwe mogelijkheden van de doven aan te passen. Fabienne Cauwe, Trini Gaimza en Jose Gonzalez werden hiertoe begeleid door Hanna Bardos, Catherine Lybaert en Michael Wolteche. Hoe zullen zij met hun persoonlijkheid een nieuwe kleur geven aan deze cantate? J.S.
