Het is gevestigd in Molenbeek en beweegt zich rond de structuur van het Kunstencentrum om vanuit de Manchesterstraat uit te wijken naar de Brusselse regio en verder. Het is een plek waar fotografische samenwerkingen met de bewoners van de wijk tot stand komen op basis van nieuwe beelden (gemaakt in het atelier van de Fototek, op straat of bij de bewoners thuis) of in de vorm van het verzamelen en reproduceren van oude beelden. Fototek zal actief archiveren en deze archieven ook openstellen. Het zal gaan om lokale archieven, maar ook om bijvoorbeeld de dozen van het “Fuseum van de Motografie”, een Belgische fotografiecollectie, gerealiseerd tussen 2017 en 2019. Er zullen ook geregeld tentoonstellingen worden gehouden om de rijkdom aan iconografisch materiaal te tonen dat tijdens de lokale snuisterijen wordt verzameld. Fototek wil zich alleen verrijken door middel van beelden en teksten, het project is volledig gratis voor iedereen die eraan wil mee werken.
