Ze wordt algemeen aanzien als dé meest vernieuwende jazzgitariste van haar generatie. Ze studeerde in 2002 af aan Wesleyan University en haar ster rees snel aan de zijde van muzikanten als Anthony Braxton, Taylor Ho Bynum, Jessica Pavone, Nate Wooley en Trevor Dunn (laatstgenoemde heren waren hier in mei met Bureau of Atomic Tourism). Met Ches Smith (die hier te gast was met Ribot) en bassist John Hebert vormt ze sinds 2008 een uitzonderlijk trio. Ze schittert zowel in compositie als gitaartechnisch: haar idioom gaat van avantjazz over folktexturen tot noise (ook Hendrix en Deerhoof staan bij haar invloeden) en ze wordt met een ongelooflijke wendbaarheid gestuwd en ondersteund door Smith en Hebert. Met: Mary Halvorson (guitar) / Ches Smith (drums) / John Hebert (bass) Bony Fish zijn heren met respectabele stamboom die hun geluid omschrijven als ‘Free Cosmic Music’. Luc Ex musiceerde bijna 20 jaar bij The Ex, daarna bij andere formaties zoals Roof (met Tom Cora), 4Walls, Sol en Triolex. Aymeric Avice kennen we dan weer vooral als vrolijke stoorzender op trompet met effectpedalen van het franse jazzcore trio Jean Louis. Mikael Szafirowski tast de speelgrenzen af van gitaar en cavaquinho (Portugese voorloper van de ukulele). De jonge Marcos Baggiani is spilfiguur bij verschillende bands van improviserende muziek (Royal Improvisers Orchestra, The Ambush Party…).
