Dhaka, de hoofdstad van Bangladesh, heeft een van de belangrijkste gebouwen van de 20e eeuw: het parlementsgebouw van Louis I. Kahn, gebouwd tussen 1961 en 1982. Er is echter weinig bekend over de lokale architectuurscene die sindsdien is ontstaan. Toch vertoont de hedendaagse architectuur in Bangladesh een sterke vormentaal die zijn wortels heeft in traditie en wordt gecombineerd met een innovatieve omgang met lokale hulpbronnen zoals bamboe en baksteen.
