Au début, il sortait des chansons sous le nom The Weeknd et les postait sur Youtube, mais son identité restait pour bien longtemps un secret (cfr. Burial). En mars 2011, il a sorti son premier album 'House of Balloons', suivi par 'Thursday' (août '11) et 'Echoes of Silence' (déc '11).
