Banjo électrique, guitare, kazoo et pédales basses (cfr un certain Jesse Fuller), tout lui est bon pour forcer les portes du paradis à grands cris, Bible en main. Avec des moyens limités, des accents de complainte et un banjo minimaliste, des éléments qui évoquent le folk blanc des Appalaches, il provoque un impact maximal sur le public coupable et repentant. Cet homme a attendu d’avoir quarante ans avant de se servir du banjo ténor pour donner forme à sa quête spirituelle. Entretemps, il a une foule impressionnante d’adeptes en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. On le dirait tout droit sorti d’un enregistrement contemporain d’Alan Lomax. Génial anachronisme. **MULABANDA** (IT/NL/PT) Prenez un fougueux bassiste, qui a baigné dans l’underground néerlandaise, mettez-le sur un podium avec trois maîtres de l’impro. Ajoutez une sérieuse dose d’électronique, de noise, de spaced out rock, un zeste d’ambient et saupoudrez de funk… et vous obtenez Mulabanda. Chacun de son côté a déjà joué avec notamment Jim O’Rourke, Arve Henriksen, Chris Corsano (Di Domenico), Norberto Lobo, Enrico Rava (Lobo), Mark Sanders, Nate Wooley (Martini), Burton Greene... Pour ceux qui veulent une référence : c’est ‘This Heat’ avec trente ans de plus.
