A partir du contraste entre la conception bon marché et éclectique de ‘Docklands Light Railway’ et l’extension coûteuse et sophistiquée de ‘Jubilee Line’, Hatherley développera ensuite son propos à travers deux exemples récents : l’extension de la ‘East London Line' à l’Est et au Sud-Est de Londres – un quartier majoritairement pauvre et fermé par de nouvelles infrastructures mal conçues – et le projet ‘Crossrail’, actuellement en chantier. L’architecture de ce nouveau projet a déjà été critiquée en raison de la rupture avec la qualité de l’extension ‘Jubilee’ tandis que l’impact sur la problématique des logements sociaux reste sous-exposée. La version officielle présente le projet ‘Crossrail’ comme une ouverture du quartier Thames Gateway dans l’Est de Londres. Mais est-ce crédible ?
