De groep werd opgericht in 2010 toen zeven leden van het ensemble hun eigen geschreven muziek wilden vertolken. Sinds hun debuutplaat, tevens geselecteerd als "Best debut album" door de New York City Jazz Record in 2013, is de groep uitgebreid met drie nieuwe muzikanten. Ifa y Xango stelt hun tweede plaat voor, ontstaan uit hun voorliefde voor experimentele elektronische muziek, trance muziek en musique concrète. Het album wordt uitgebracht als limited edition vinyl op de concerten in de lente van 2015. Ifa y Xango is deel van het [TROIKA](http://www.troikavzw.com/) collectief.
