Pendant ses années “hollandaises”, Weeber enseigne (Delft, Rotterdam, Amsterdam). Il construit beaucoup aussi , aux Pays-Bas (grands projets de logements, immeubles de bureaux, stations de metro) et dans le monde entier (Pavillon NL au Japon 1970, hôpital au Vietnam, résidence de l’ambassade NL à Dakar. Il reçoit de nombreux pris, dont le Prix de Rome 1966, le Maaskantprijs,.. et est présent sur les ondes radio, à la télévison, en plus des livres qu’il écrit (dont le dernier s’appelle “Carel Weeber, ex-architect”, au moment où il décide d’arrêter, ce qu’il ne fera pas tout à fait). En 2005, il rentre sur son île natale, et y (re)commence à faire de l’architecture, d’une autre échelle (bien plus petite), dans d’autres conditions, vitesse, contextes. C’est de ce retour (en architecture) dans les Caraibes, sur son ile de 410km² et 140 000 habitants (ex-Antilles Néerlandaises), que Carel Weeber nous parlera ce soir.
