Architecture and urbanism… rarely have we developed mechanisms to enable resistance… Therefore, in the first instance, we must substitute the role of expert for that of the citizen. (…)The challenge in the future will be to take on legislations and develop new modes of collective action, as well as urban spaces for citizenry.” (interview Architecture Now)* Alejandro Haiek Coll, jeune architecte, urbaniste et artiste vénézuélien est co-fondateur du bureau LAB.PRO.FAB (Project and Fabrication Laboratory) et The Public Machinery. Il est également prof à la faculté d'architecture et d'urbanisme à la Central University of Venezuela. On dit de lui qu'il est un des jeunes urbanistes alternatifs les plus innovants du moment, il est très demandé comme orateur et professeur dans le monde entier. Au coeur de sa pratique: la conviction que l'architecture est un acte politique et social. Produire pour la masse, pas dans la masse; en partant des intérêts et des connaissances des citoyens et des mouvemens sociaux. Une approche pas d'en haut, mais d'en bas, axée sur des initiatives nées dans la communauté dirigées ensuite pour changer la situation sociale et l'environnement bâti.
