Dhaka, la capitale du Bangladesh, possède l'un des bâtiments les plus importants du XXe siècle : son bâtiment parlementaire construit entre 1961 et 1982 par Louis I. Kahn. Cependant, on sait peu de choses sur la scène architecturale locale qui a émergé depuis lors. Pourtant, l'architecture contemporaine au Bangladesh présente un langage formel fort qui trouve ses racines dans la tradition et qui est combiné avec une manipulation innovante des ressources locales telles que le bambou et la brique.
